R&B singer Carl Thomas is one of tens of thousands of Houston residents who saw flood waters encroaching on their homes, and were forced to gather what they could and get out as fast as they can. He talked about his home on the north side of town, which “flooded pretty bad,” he says. Although he has been in floods before, he says he has never seen anything like that before. He talks about seeing the water coming up his driveway, and having to make a decision after accepting that his house would suffer damage from the rising water.

Carl talks about saving music equipment and thing he couldn’t be replaced, and forgetting to think about things like clothing. The night before, he says, he had a big fight party, and his entire family and a lot of friends were at his house. He talks about being tasked with instilling a sense of urgency in his family members without making them panic.
